The energy technology degree program deals with technical aspects of conversion, transportation and storage for thermal, fluid mechanical and chemical energy. The program uses a systematic approach, while the design of individual components is less important. 

Energy technology in Lemgo is heavily focused on engineering. The program particularly emphasizes application-based learning, through a variety of internships and student research projects with companies in the region, as well as interdisciplinarity through cooperations with other departments.
