RING AND FLASH DRYERS

The VetterTec Ring and Flash Dryer technologies are pneumatic type drying systems well-known for their reliability and drying efficiency. Our Ring and Flash Dryer systems are suitable for drying a range of products from wet cakes to wet pastes.

Optimal wet product preparation is part of our specially designed and easily cleanable wet product feed system forming an integral part of our dryers. Based on our extensive experience, VetterTec carefully selects each part of our drying systems, including, for example, upstream mechanical dewatering and downstream Milling and Cooling to suit each specific application.

THE FLASH DRYER – PRINCIPLE OF OPERATION

The Flash dryer is a single-pass, pneumatic type drying system which offers gentle drying due to its short residence time. The dryer can be either indirectly heated (steam, thermal oil, waste heat or natural / biogas) or directly heated (waste heat or natural / biogas). Depending on product and / or emission requirements, either single or multi-stage cyclones (with option for special suction discharge), cyclone and bag filter combination or bag filter only can be used for product collection.

SILO AND DOSING SCREW

As an alternative to drying spent grains at the end of the brewing process (see dewatering screw press / tube bundle dryer), the product can be fed to a wet spent grains silo plant. The spent grains are loaded on trucks from the silos by a dosing screw for use as animal fodder or for decomposition in agriculture.

The dosing screw features a compensating control that compensates for varying spent grains density, enabling adjustment of the discharge quantity at different filling levels in the silo.

As an alternative, the wet spent grains can be discharged through a measuring container (large rotary valve), e.g. if a dosing screw cannot be used due to limited space.

Spray Dryers

The special know-how in the design of the atomizers provides high reliability and a sophisticated solution to give the particle characteristics for the desired application. PRINCIPLE OF OPERATION

VetterTec spray dryers are designed to dry liquids to powder by means of an atomizer in a high-efficient range. This very gentle drying is mainly used to dry heat sensitive products.

The atomizer forms the liquid into small droplets before spraying them into a hot air stream, where the major part of the water evaporates in a few seconds. At the end, the dried powder will be separated from the air by a cyclone and/or a filter system. Downstream the dryer can be equipped with fluid beds, coolers and agglomerators, to further condition the powder prior to the packaging unit.

CHARACTERISTICS

The VetterTec spray dryers are individually designed to meet the specific requirements of our customers and offer a high flexibility of design.

Atomization can be provided by centrifugal wheels, rotary atomizers, pressure nozzles or twin-fluid nozzles. This range of systems allows the specific particle size requirements to be met for each application.

Direct or indirect heating systems are supplied depending upon the industry standards for the product. Inlet temperatures may range from 100°C for very heat sensitive products to 750°C for some inert chemicals.

Closed circuit and self-inertized dryers are supplied to allow organic solvents to be dried and to meet the environmental specifications.

Different chamber configurations are used along with a range of residence times to provide the desired particle size and moisture content in the finished powder.

Agglomerated products are produced by using integrated fluid beds, fines recycle systems and external fluid beds. These powders are widely used in the food industries.

TUBE BUNDLE DRYERS

The VetterTec Tube Bundle Dryer is an indirect steam heated dryer and is well known for its efficient and gentle treatment of products.
By using steam as indirect heating media, customers are flexible in the choice of their energy source.

TUBE BUNDLE DRYERS – PRINCIPLE OF OPERATION

The steam heated tube bundle slowly rotates in a fixed housing and conveys the product to be dried axially through the dryer. Shovels transport the product along the circumference of the housing, where it falls through the heated tube bundle for each rotation.

The economic and gentle drying is achieved by contact with the tubes and convection. The heat source is typically saturated steam between 4 – 10 barg, solutions with lower steam pressure are available.
