The solids solutions group is in the field of bulk solids handling an internationally operating group of companies and a competent partner for different industries producing and processing bulk solids.

We offer more than 50 years experience and KnowHow in the development and manufacturing of components for bulk solids handling with the core competences storing-, conveying-, metering- and weighing technology as well as in the engineering and realisation of complete, automatic bulk handling systems.

In January 2020, the solids solutions group became part of the Hosokawa Alpine Group and thus a member of the Hosokawa Micron Group.

Following the takeover of the solids solutions Group by Hosokawa Alpine AG in January 2020, the Landsberg-based group of companies has repositioned itself: The previous companies system-technik GmbH and S.S.T. Schüttguttechnik Maschinenbau GmbH merged to form Hosokawa solids solutions GmbH and are now a permanent part of the Augsburg-based mechanical engineering company Hosokawa Alpine. This creates a new centre of competence in the field of mechanical process engineering that offers its customers complete solutions in bulk solids handling and powder technology.

Worldwide network of experts
Hosokawa solids solutions GmbH, which currently has three locations in Germany and Spain, has more than 50 years of experience in bulk materials handling. With the integration into the worldwide expert network of Hosokawa Alpine AG, it can expand its competences and has access to a strong sales network. "Through a joint market presence, we create sales synergies and are thus closer to the customer. In addition, we can now expand our expertise in complete solutions for bulk materials handling for our customers and also offer them the process steps of grinding, mixing and compacting. This strengthens our market position and attractiveness as an employer," says Manfred Wahl, Managing Director of Hosokawa solids solutions GmbH.

Solutions from a single source
Hosokawa Alpine AG is also more than satisfied with the integration of the Landsberg group of companies. Already today, it holds a leading position as a provider of solutions in the field of mechanical process engineering. These are used worldwide in many branches of industry, such as the chemical, pharmaceutical, food, recycling and mineral flour industries. This position will now be further expanded. "Through joint solutions, we offer our customers real added value: they receive a plant whose components are perfectly matched to each other and get complete service from a single source. This helps us decisively to further advance our growth course", says Dr. Antonio Fernández, CEO of Hosokawa Alpine AG. The first joint projects of Hosokawa solids solutions and Hosokawa Alpine are already being successfully implemented.

Measuring device for automated determination of bulk density

Monitoring bulk density in the comminution process, but also in granulation and filling processes, poses major challenges for customers worldwide, especially when bulk density measurement becomes necessary on a quasi-continuous basis. To solve this problem, HOSOKAWA solids solutions GmbH has developed and applied for a patent for an inline density meter that meets this challenge and can measure products with bulk densities from 0.05 to 5.0 kg/ dm3 with an accuracy of up to +- 0.5%. The measurement is carried out in a dust-tight housing, so that hazardous substances can also be monitored without any problems, taking into account the requirements of employee health protection. A high measuring accuracy with simultaneously strongly reduced time expenditure is achieved by the automated measuring process and the constant process and environmental conditions. In the meantime, inline density meters have proven their market readiness at several customers with different applications. Operating principle: The density meter essentially consists of a weighing unit and the integrated measuring cup. To determine the bulk density, the measuring cup is filled with a constant volume from the customer's product stream. Together with the weight determined by the weighing unit, the bulk density is calculated. Areas of application / customer benefits: Since the particle size distribution correlates very well with the bulk density, there are many interesting application possibilities in the monitoring of comminution processes. Likewise, the manufacturing process of "foamed" products or granulation processes can be monitored and readjusted. Other potential applications include spray drying or ensuring constant filling quantities in a container, for which inline density measurement can be used to advantage. The automated, high-precision measurement in a closed process significantly increase customer benefits compared to previous methods and leads to a reduction of labor and production costs as well as an increase in occupational safety and product quality
