MHG100 – Precise Humidity Control

The extremely powerful MHG100 is designed for applications requiring high flow rates as in open systems or large volume chambers . Humidity control in a closed loop and at controlled temperature allows for accurate adjustment of relative humidity even in challenging environments.

The MHG100 provides a maximum flow rate of 15 l/min which is suitable for humidity control for chamber volumes up to 100 litres. The modular setup with symmetrical gas supply in two lines and the broad temperature and humidity range make the MHG100 a perfect match for the most diverse target systems. Controlled humidity with the modular MHG32

The MHG32 system is designed for controlled humidity in challenging instrument environments where quick changes of RH in small volumes are required. The unique feature of the MHG32 is the generation and control of relative humidity directly at the target volume and thus enabling a fast and accurate response even at very low flow rates.

The MHG32 is available with with maximum flow rates of 500 ml/min or 1000ml/min and is suitable for chamber volumes from approx. 20ml up to 2000ml. The modular setup and easy adaption in combination with the broad temperature and humidity range makes the MHG32 a perfect match for all kind of applications. Dynamic Vapor Sorption (DVS) Analysis

The dynamic vapor sorption method is used in laboratories world-wide to examine the intriguing moisture sorption behaviour of materials. DVS is used in the industry as well as in academia. It is applied in pharmaceutics for salt-screening and to analyse polymorphism. In food research it is used in stability and shelf-life studies as well as to investigate moisture migration between ingredients in a food product. DVS helps to develop sophisticated packaging materials by measuring the water vapor permeability of films and foils. It is also a valuable tool to asses the caking behaviour of powdered and granular material during transport, storage and handling. In building physics it is used to analyse water uptake and release of insulation and construction materials made of wood, plaster, fibres or concrete. In the electronic industry moisture induced failure of componenents is of interest. Originally developed for pharmaceutical research, dynamic vapor sorption nowadays is used in a continuously growing number of DVS applications.

Moisture Equilibration of Powders and Bulk Solids

Moisture equilibration – The Powder Conditioner

Moisture content can have a significant impact on powder properties such as flowability or compressibility. Measurement of mechanical properties at certain moisture contents therefore is essential in order to avoid problems during processing, storage and transport. The ProUmid Powder Conditioner enables moisture equilibration of particulate systems such as powders, granules or pellets at controlled relative humidity.

Dynamic Flow Method

A defined gas flow with controlled RH is passed through a powder bed. Temperature and RH at the gas inlet and outlet are recorded. The formation of lumps or air channels inside the powder bed is inhibited by continuous agitation. Completion of the humidity conditioning process is automatically determined by the instrument.

Humidity Control

The powder conditioner is connected to the ProUmid MHG32 Humidity Generator or comparable equipment that provides a humidity controlled gas flow.

Applications for Moisture Equilibration

Powder analysis

Pre-treatment of powders for analysis of bulk properties with a certain moisture content using equipment such as powder rheometer, flow tester, caking tester or ring shear cell.

Processibility

of powders with a certain moisture content in processes such as tabletting, roller compaction, filling and dosing.

Add-on: Water Content Determination

Water uptake of the powder can be calculated from the gas flow rate and the temperature and RH readings by a software algorithm. Successive execution of humidity steps enables to record the sorption isotherm of powdered material.
