VAUTID 18/8/6

For overlays and buffer layers subject to impact and pressure

This is a traditional material for weld joints and buffer layer applications. It ensures that VAUTID wear protection alloys fuse securely with austenitic manganese steel and hardening steels.

Due to its excellent corrosion resistance qualities, work-hardening capabilities and high ductility, VAUTID 18/8/6 is especially well-suited for the protection and remanufacture of components which are subject to impact and pressure loads.

Recommended applications:

• Buffer layers between components made from austenitic manganese steel or hardening steels and wear-resistant VAUTID welding consumables.
• For use when remanufacturing components which are made from austenitic manganese steel or which have a specific ductility or corrosion-resistance requirement, e.g. rails, railway points/shunting switches, firing bolts and gears.
• Components subject to high temperatures used in mineral wool production.

VAUTID W7

For thin-walled components (30 mm max) that are subject to a combination of impact and abrasion

This alloy is used in the manufacture of highly abrasion-resistant castings that are also subject to moderate impact.  Its wear resistance can be reduced through heat treatment. This is an advantage for close-tolerance parts in particular, as the part can then be precision machined. The process can be reversed. Once machining has been completed, the component’s wear resistance can be restored to its previous level.

VAUTID W7 is particularly suitable for thin-walled components, with wall thicknesses of up to 30 mm. In the VAUTID W72 and VAUTID W73 variants, the composition is modified to permit higher wall thicknesses.

Recommended applications:

• Cast components that are exposed to temperatures up to 400°C.
• Cast components that require machining.
• Thin-walled components (< 30 mm) that are subject to abrasion and impact, e.g. feeder screw spirals, or impact heads.

Mechanical properties
VAUTID use white cast iron materials produced to DIN EN 12513 grades GJN-HV520 – 5.5602 and GJN-HV600(XCr18) – 5.5609 for components exposed to abrasion or to a combination of abrasion and impact. Materials developed in-house by VAUTID are used in impact mills, crushers and conveyor units, commonly installed in recycling plants, asphalt works or power generation plants. Typical components include lining elements, mixer tools, pump parts, hammers and beater bars. VAUTID materials VAUTID W7, VAUTID W72 and VAUTID W72H can all be machined.

VAUTID W72

For components up to 40 mm thick that are subject to a combination of impact and abrasion

The composition of this material is designed for castings with a wall thickness of up to 40 mm.  VAUTID W72 offers outstanding wear resistance against abrasion and moderate impact. Parts made in this material can also be annealed, to accommodate simple machining operations.

Recommended applications:

• Cast components that are exposed to temperatures up to 400°C.
• Cast components that require machining.
• Thin-walled components (< 40 mm) that are subject to abrasion and impact, e.g. coatings on dosing feed gates, friction disks.

VAUTID use white cast iron materials produced to DIN EN 12513 grades GJN-HV520 – 5.5602 and GJN-HV600(XCr18) – 5.5609 for components exposed to abrasion or to a combination of abrasion and impact. Materials developed in-house by VAUTID are used in impact mills, crushers and conveyor units, commonly installed in recycling plants, asphalt works or power generation plants. Typical components include lining elements, mixer tools, pump parts, hammers and beater bars. VAUTID materials VAUTID W7, VAUTID W72 and VAUTID W72H can all be machined.

VAUTID W73

For components over 40 mm thick that are subject to impact and abrasion

This alloy is designed to provide maximum through-hardening on wall thicknesses above 40 mm. VAUTID W72 offers outstanding resistance against wear from abrasion and moderate impact. The wear-resistant properties of this material can be suspended by heat treatment.  This is especially advantageous in the case of components that require machining.

Recommended applications:

• Cast components that are exposed to temperatures up to 400°C.
• Cast components that require machining.
• Components with wall thicknesses greater than 40 mm which are subject to abrasion and impact, e.g. hammers, plungers, agitators.

VAUTID W78A

For components over 40 mm thick that are subject to impact and abrasion

With a very high proportion of chrome carbides embedded in an extremely stable matrix, VAUTID W78A produces castings which achieve a long service life, even under extreme conditions. VAUTID W78A has proved ideal in situations where severe impact is combined with highly abrasive media.

Recommended applications:

• Cast components that are exposed to temperatures up to 400°C.
• Components that are subjected to very severe abrasion and significant impact g. hammers, impact heads, chisels, and beater bars.
