Combining many of the advantages of fluidised bed reactors with those of a rotary kiln. The sample can be simultaneously heated and agitated under a controlled atmosphere. This overcomes the long reaction times required when using conventional chamber furnaces or static tubes under a flowing atmosphere.
- Maximum operating temperature : 1100°C
- Available with a choice of 120 or 950gms capacity
- Developed in conjunction with the Imperial College of Science & Technology, London
- Simultaneously provides a controlled atmosphere & agitation of powdered solids
- The atmosphere enters the quartz vessel through a flexible silicon rubber tube
- The material is heated by radiation through the silica tube
- High quality resistance wire elements ensure maximum heat transfer and excellent temperature uniformity
- The rotating fused silica vessel is fluted on the internal surface to ensure even mixing and uniform exposure of the particles to the atmosphere; the smooth internal profile allows easy loading/unloading and cleaning with minimal powder loss
- The hinged heated chamber design allows easy access for removal and insertion of the quartz vessel
- Applications in materials rsearch include calcination of arsenical golds under atmosphere, analysis of sulphurs in ores and metallurgical slags
- Applications in geological research include ashing sulphide ores to convert them to oxides and calcination of limestone and dolomite aggregates
