The MCR rheometer series from Anton Paar offers you one thing first and foremost: an open range of possibilities. Whatever your rheological requirements are and will be – your MCR rheometer is efficiently and comfortably adapted to meet your needs, from routine quality control to high-end R&D applications, for rotational and oscillation rheological measurements as well as dynamic mechanic analysis.
Anton Paar rheometers have been developed over decades with one thing in mind: you, the user. Our rheometers take a lot of typically challenging work off your hands based on an array of patented features such as Toolmaster™ for automatic tool recognition and configuration, TruGap™ for automatic gap control, and T-Ready™ for automatic control of the actual sample temperature. Its modular concept makes adaption easy – extend your rheometer’s capabilities with a wide range of application-specific accessories.

Advanced True Powder Rheology - A Toolbox for Powder Challenges
Working with powders and granular media can be challenging, therefore, efficient quality control and smooth powder processing is important. Powder behavior is affected by many internal influences like particle size and shape, but also by many external influences such as temperature and humidity. These influences, and thereby the powder behavior, can change during storage or a manufacturing process. The Anton Paar Powder Cell offers a toolbox of measurement methods for determination of a variety of powder properties and handling parameters for optimized processing and storage. A wide range of dedicated powder measurement methods are implemented in the software and most only take a few minutes, ensuring efficient quality control and smooth processing.

Anton Paar Powder Cell

  • Setup: measuring cell with tube, patented dust protection hood, pressure sensor, mass flow controller, variety of measurement systems
  • Easy sample loading and easy cleaning: measuring cell fully dismountable and resistant to common solvents
  • No electrostatic discharges: completely grounded
  • Simple installation: without tools

Measuring methods

  • Pressure Drop Method: Determination of volumetric flow for incipient/full fluidization. Useful for pneumatic conveying, powder filling, and for sample preparation.
  •  Air retention capacity: Describes the time necessary for the particles to fully settle after they were fluidized, useful for pneumatic conveying, filling and tableting processes.
  • Cohesion Strength: Is a measure of the internal resistance of the powder to flow, and thereby a measure of powder flowability in a deaerated state. Can be used with all fluidizable powders as a quick and simple QC tool or for differentiating even very similar powders.
  • Warren-Spring Cohesion: This method is used to determine the cohesion strength of cohesive powders in a consolidated state. The results can be used for quality control, powder characterization (elasticity, cohesion, flowability) and to study caking behavior.
  • Wall Frictiondescribes the friction between powder and a solid body of nearly any material. Useful for silo/hopper design or finding friction coefficients.
  • Compressibility: is a measure of the relative volume and bulk density change a sample undergoes when pressure is applied. Being a simple test, it can be used to identify the nature of powder flow with Carr Index and Hausner Ratio.
  • Flow curves: describe the apparent powder viscosity of powders in dependence of the shear rate and the state of fluidization (non-, sub- and fully fluidized). Useful for choosing ideal processing conditions for powders..
Other methods and parameter: Segregation, Tensile Strength, Permeability
  • The modularity of MCR rheometer with all its accessories makes it possible to characterize powders in all processing steps, e.g. for powder coating: from the fluidized bed reactor, to pneumatic conveying and powder spraying and even tribological characterization of the hardened coatings.
