KB and KC single-shaft horizontal ploughshare mixers
Ploughshare mixers are ideal for mixing powder and granular materials to a very high degree of product homogeneity in a very short time. Thanks to their high speed of rotation, the design and sequence of the mixing tools (ploughs or blades) and their high shear and turbulent action, KB and KC ploughshare mixers thoroughly distribute all ingredients within the recipe (particle distribution up to 1:100,000), whatever the bulk density, particle size and percentage of each ingredient may be. Due to their mechanical fluid-bed mixing principle, these mixers achieve the desired results in the shortest possible time (generally in less than 180 seconds), avoiding product stratification and dead spots within the mixing drum.
Ploughshare mixers are available in a batch (KBC-KBT) or continuous (KCV-KCF) configuration.
Batch mixers are equipped with one or more inlets and one or more discharge ports; upon request, a large bomb door that opens along the entire drum length is available: this technical sollution is adopted to speed up discharging operations or drastically decrease product residue after mixer dsicharge operations. All discharge solutions are perfectly flush with the drum, eliminating the risk of dead spots. Discharge doors are electro-pneumatically or hydraulically operated.
Continuous mixers, on the other hand, have one inlet at one end of he drum and one open discharge spout at the opposite side: the mixed materials flow into one end of the mixer, are processed and gradually pushed forwards, for final discharge through the open outlet at the opposite end.
Made in mild steel, hardened steel (HB400-HB500) or stainless steel (304 or 316 grade), all ploughshare mixers can be equipped with a wide variety of accessories, designed to increase mixing efficiency, reduce mixing time, and improve performance depending on application and process requirements. Among them the most commonly used are: wear-resistant coating on mixing tools; high speed side refiners with blade-type or tulip-type tools; liquid injection systems; temperature jackets (used for heating or cooling the mixed materials) and temperature probes (for continuous monitoring of product temperature inside the mixing drum); bolted, replaceable, internal wear-resistant liners; different types of drives; pneumatic sampling devices; pneumatic control panels for all appliances that require compressed air; full control panels for stand-alone installations; ATEX versions for hazardous materials and applications.
Thanks to their exceptional flexibility in terms of configuration and different types of materials of construction, KB and KC ploughshare mixers have a very broad field of application, providing the ideal mixing solution for virtually all industrial processes where mixing and blending are an important, if not critical, production phase.
