SAFE GROUNDING OF FLEXIBLE INTERMEDIATE BULK CONTAINERS (FIBC)
In industrial filling processes flexible bulk containers as FIBC are frequently used. Typically, these processes transport particulate materials that can cause hazardous atmospheres. Electrostatic charges must be safely dissipated to prevent explosions due to energy discharges. TIMM is developing the new Grounding Control Device EKX-FIBC for this kind of application using Type C FIBC bags.
The EKX-FIBC is mounted stationary at filling and unloading stations for FIBC. It safely dissipates the static charge of the FIBC during the filling process via two special FIBC grounding clamps that are directly connected to the FIBC (unique 2-clamp measuring principle). The device permanently monitors that the maximum resistance values in the discharge connection are not exceeded. A fill release is only given if the connected FIBC is properly recognized and grounded. If a safety risk exists, the device immediately interrupts the filling process via the control outputs. The EKX-FIBC also signals the unsafe condition by a LED that can be seen from afar.

■ Various diagnostic and setting options, diagnostic memory and optional data interface
■ For all FIBC Type C according to IEC 61340-4-4 (10^7 Ω and 10^8 Ω)
■ ATEX approval (zone 1 and 21) and SIL 2 suitable
