Due to the high requirements of their customers in the fifties, Carlo Erba developed the first generation of automated instruments for mercury porosimetry and volumetric gas adsorption.
In 1994 with more than 25 years experience in sales and service of these products, former employees of Carlo Erba Germany founded the company Porotec GmbH as distributor of the microstructure lines for ThermoFisher Scientific (former Carlo Erba). The distribution area comprises today Switzerland, Austria, several Eastern European countries, Scandinavia and Turkey. 1995 Porotec began distributing the Dynamic Vapour Sorption (DVS) instruments for Surface Measurement Systems. In 2008 Porotec shifted to TA Waters Inc. with an extended product range in high temperature and high pressure vapour sorption for applications in catalysis and hydrogen storage. The Helium pycnometer as an own product was developed together with ThermoFisher Scientific and is world wide successfully marketed. Meanwhile the range of products is extended with porometer (mercury free pore size determination) of the company Benelux Scientific, humidity generators and pressure swing adsorption from L&C Science and Zeta potential devices and nano-particle analysers from Colloidal Dynamics.
In 1982 the close contact with scientific researchers allowed us to organize the first "Workshop on the characterization of finely divided and porous solids". This 2 day event takes traditionally place every 2 years. The XVII. Workshop will be held again in Bad Soden in November 2014.
With new innovative instruments representing the industrial standard for quality control and covering the requirements of fundamental research, Porotec now offers a wide variety of instruments for the characterization of finely divided and porous solids. With our experienced Application-Lab we are able to demonstrate the instruments for Hg-porosimetry, physisorption, chemisorption, vapour sorption, density, particle size s, Zeta potential and temperature programmed desorption reduction oxidation and pulse-chemisorption with coupled MS. Within our lab we are able to improve our service capabilities with training courses, research cooperation and mandate analysis. Thus we could help successfully many of our customers to solve their analytical problems. This strong experience enters also with our activities in DIN and ISO. Porotec, together with the pleasant cooperation of our customers and 45 years experience in development of scientific instruments, will continue to introduce new techniques in both hardware and software offering successful solutions, utilizing powerful instruments, combined with superior support services.
