Independent, performance-oriented family company since 1829
As a result of the patent application of the Schniewindt heating grating in the year 1902, a successful, globally-active company was formed from a small operation in Sauerland, Germany, which is still in family ownership today and directed by Dr. Sarah Schniewindt.
Our business sectors
Schniewindt heating technology includes the development, manufacture and sale of heaters for the heating of gases, liquids and solids. These devices also reflect our knowledge areas involving hazards from explosion and driving rain. With complete systems, including electronic controls and pumps, we offer process-optimized and energy-efficient solutions from a single source.
In the electric resistance technology sector, we develop and produce customer-specific, high-performance and high-voltage resistances for the loading, testing, filtering and damping of vibrations, as well as direct voltage dividers, combined instrument and calibration transformers and synthetic antennae.
In the energy transmission technology sector, we combine well-proven sensor technology for voltage and current measurement, on request also with optical-digital data transfer for employment in future-oriented, digital, automated transformer substations. Likewise we offer the collation and digitalization of analog signals from conventional current and voltage transformers and their visualization with the aid of our SV viewer.
We apply our knowledge, based on our long-standing experience gained in heating and resistance technology, in the equipping of modern traffic engineering. On the one hand, we market heating systems for the pre-heating of diesel engines in shipping and railway technology, and on the other hand we provide braking resistances for electric drive technology in the maritime (shipbuilding, offshore) area as well as in the industrial sector.
Our contribution to energy conversion
As an international market leader for braking resistances with the employment of DC current systems on board offshore supply ships, tugboats, ferry boats and yachts, we contribute to reducing fuel consumption and emissions.
Because of a rapidly growing sector in "renewable energies" and the associated network variations through climatic conditions, new demands are being made on energy suppliers. They are obliged to maintain the network in a stable configuration and to apply corresponding measures. One possibility here consists in switching in or out very large switching loads. For applications involved in this important task, also designated as Power-to-Heat, Schniewindt offers electrically-heated, flow-through heaters, also as a complete system with matching control and switchgear.
180 employees, "powered by electrifying ideas" deal with new challenges every day and are a vital part of our success on the market over the years.
