Malvern and PANalytical have merged their activities as of 1st of January 2017. Both companies are owned by parent company Spectris plc and are operating companies within the Materials Analysis segment of Spectris. Both companies are world leading suppliers of analytical instrumentation, PANalytical for X-ray instrumentation and software for the purpose of materials analysis and Malvern Instruments for materials and biophysical characterization technology. The combined entity is a strong player in the materials characterization market and will be able to leverage the strengths of the individual companies in their end markets ranging from building materials to pharmaceuticals and from metals and mining to nanomaterials.
About Malvern Instruments
Malvern provides the materials and biophysical characterization technology and expertise that enable scientists and engineers to understand and control the properties of dispersed systems. These systems range from proteins and polymers in solution, particle and nanoparticle suspensions and emulsions, through to sprays and aerosols, industrial bulk powders and high concentration slurries. Used at all stages of research, development and manufacturing, Malvern’s materials characterization instruments provide critical information that helps accelerate research and product development, enhance and maintain product quality and optimize process efficiency.
Our products reflect Malvern’s drive to exploit the latest technological innovations and our commitment to maximizing the potential of established techniques. They are used by both industry and academia, in sectors ranging from pharmaceuticals and biopharmaceuticals to bulk chemicals, cement, plastics and polymers, energy and the environment.
Malvern systems are used to measure particle size, particle shape, zeta potential, protein charge, molecular weight, mass, size and conformation, nanoparticle size and count, rheological properties and for chemical identification, advancing the understanding of dispersed systems across many different industries and applications.
Headquartered in Malvern, UK, Malvern Instruments has subsidiary organizations in all major European markets, North America, Mexico, China, Japan and Korea, a joint venture in India, a global distributor network and applications laboratories around the world.
PANalytical’s mission is to enable people to get valuable insight into their materials and processes. Our customers can be found in virtually every industry segment, from building materials to pharmaceuticals and from metals and mining to nanomaterials. The combination of our software and instrumentation, based on X-ray diffraction (XRD), X-ray scattering, X-ray fluorescence (XRF) and near-infrared (NIR) spectroscopy as well as pulsed fast thermal neutron activation (PFTNA), provides our customers with highly reliable and robust elemental and structural information on their materials and is applied in scientific research and industrial process and quality control.
PANalytical employs over 1,000 people worldwide. The company’s headquarters are in Almelo, the Netherlands. Fully equipped application laboratories are established in Japan, China, the US, Brazil, and the Netherlands. PANalytical’s research activities are based in Almelo (NL). Supply and competence centers are located on two sites in the Netherlands: Almelo (X-ray instruments) and Eindhoven (X-ray tubes), in Nottingham, UK (XRF applications and standards), in Quebec, Canada (fusion sample preparation) and in Boulder CO, US (near-infrared instruments).
PANalytical is active in all but a few countries of the world. This worldwide sales and service network ensures unrivalled levels of customer support.
The company is certified in accordance with ISO 9001 and ISO 14001.
