Thermal flow sensors TA

Principle of measurement

The principle of measurement is based on the transfer of heat from an electrically heated body to its surrounding medium.

Thermal flow sensors primarily measure standard flow velocity (Nv) through which standard flow rate and mass flow rate can be determined irrespective of temperature or pressure.

Höntzsch’s thermal flow sensors are capable of measuring smallest as well as high rates of gases and meet all requirements for industrial use:

- small sizes
- robust mechanical design
- large measuring span
- long term stability in measuring value
- high accuracy
- chemically resistant to corrosion

Fields of application:

Fixed and portable consumption measurement in compressed air, nitrogen, natural gas, methane, helium, argon, carbon dioxide, hydrogen, SF6; measuring laminar flow, burner supply air; leakage flows; monitoring safety-related installations, also in aeronautical applications. Flow rate measurement in production facilities of the pharma-, food-processing and semiconductor industry as well as flow monitoring in glove boxes, isolators or sedimentation rate measuring in spray booths.

Höntzsch calorimetric flow meters are well suited for various applications in explosive atmospheres (ATEX, CSA).

Instrumentation:

Necessary for the measurement is a thermal flow sensor TA and a matching evaluation unit which is already integrated into the sensor.

Flow sensor TA10

For the measuring of standard flow velocity, standard flow rate and temperature of the medium (probe diameter 10 mm with a thin-film sensor element)

- measuring range from 0,2 to 200 m/s, high turndown ratio Nv (up to 1 : 1000)
- time constant ca. 1 s
- pressure resistant up to 40 bar
- working temperature range -10 … +140° C
- Ex-version: category 1/2G (zone 0/1) and 1/2D (zone 20/21), CSA class I division 1 groups A, B, C, D
- materials: stainless steel, epoxy resin, glas

Flow sensor TA20

For the measuring of standard flow velocity, standard flow rate and temperature of the medium (probe diameter 20 mm with a Pt100 sensor element)

- measuring range from 0,08 to 60 m/s
- time constant ca. 10 s
- pressure resistant up to 10 bar
- working temperature range -10 … +240° C
