MWL Dispersion Analyser LUMiReader PSA and LUMiReader X-RAY
LUMiReader® PSA with Multi-Wavelength Optics – Particle sizing according to ISO 13317:
The multi-wavelength LUMiReader® PSA determines the the particles size distribution and the demixing of suspensions and emulsions for a large range of particle sizes under original storage conditions, e.g. sedimentation, flocculation and clarification. Therefore it employs records of space and time resolved extinction profiles (STEP technology) of even complex dispersions at different wavelengths. The demixing process is accelerated using a patented measuring principle, without stressing the sample by additional mechanical forces. Phase separation kinetics, due to particle migration or alteration, are recorded simultaneously over the whole sample height. Such the LUMiReader provides determination of dispersion stability according to ISO TR 13097, as well as of changes in concentration and/or particle size of the samples.
Besides the particle size distribution measurement, the multi-wavelength LUMiReader® PSA gives the separation velocity distribution and hydrodynamic particle density, too. It is an instrument for the comprehensive understanding of complex industrial products in an easy way, extending the direct stability results by specific particle related details. The differences due to the variation of the wavelength can be used for the comparison in product quality influenced by changes in particle size induced by flocculation, coalescence, etc. Temperature control up to 60 °C meets the requirements of many applications in research, development and industry, e.g. in Chemical and Pharmaceutical industries, Food & Beverages, Ceramics and Petrol industry.
The new multi-wavelength LUMiReader® PSA is the first instrument in the market supplying volume weighted particle size distribution measurement of emulsions and suspensions wihout the knowledge of the refractive index and without assumptions for sperical and homogenuos particle shape. This opens new horizons to characterize modern challenging industrial products, suffering from a lack of above mentioned parameters. The particle size distribution is determined within the range from about 500 nm to hundreds of µm.

Separation x-ray Analyser LUMiReader® X-RAY:
The new x-ray separation Analyser LUMiReader® X-RAY is dedicated to investigate/study concentration differences and rapid separation phenomena in dispersions of highest concentration and turbidity, meaning for their stability analysis. A patented solution of combining x-ray and STEP-Technology® is the key for application fields in research and industry, seeking for highest spatial resolution, short sampling intervals and powerful detection technique. This makes the LUMiReader X-RAY an indispensable tool for these applications where extreme particular concentrations in suspension and emulsions are heavily limiting the study of local and temporal concentration changes. Typical applications are cosmetics, pharmaceutics, paint & pigments, construction materials and fillers, as well as mining, ceramics and petrol industry dealing with complex emulsions and sludges.
Phase volumes, packing densities, concentration gradients and the linear attenuation coefficient of the particulate phase are also determined both in liquid, semi-solid and in dry samples. The device is designed as a full protection system.
