Alpine has extended its AHM series of horizontal agitated ball mills (7.5 to 315 kW drive power) by the laboratory design 90 AHM for mini-batches.
The mill is installed on a compact machine frame and is designed for ease of operation. The pivoted mount of the grinding unit permits a number of different positions for operation, filling and emptying. Because a focus of design was as few components as possible (e.g. rotors in monobloc design), the mill is easy to clean and maintain, thus also minimising the possibilities of product contamination.
The use of different-length rotors and mill housings makes it possible to convert the 90 AHM to 3 different grinding chamber volumes (1100, 500 or 250 ccm) to suit standard and mini product batches. Both continuous mode with a slotted pipe screen and batch mode are possible with all machine variants.
A flexible and exchangeable wear-protection system allows product contamination to be reduced to an acceptable minimum. The rotors, liner pipes and wear plates in the 90 AHM can be made of stainless steel, hardened alloy casting, PU, other plastics, and a variety of ceramics. Dependent on the type of material used, it is also possible to cool the grinding chamber.
The high degree of operating reliability is achieved by means of a double-action mechanical seal. A number of different mill parameters can be monitored and equipped with cut-out functions to protect the system. Thanks to the steplessly adjustable 2.2-kW direct drive, the optimum mill speed for every product can be is easy to set.
The 90 AHM laboratory agitated ball mill is employed in the field of research for the production of micro-batches, the manufacture of nano-particles and the grinding of high-purity products. Products from all branches of industry, i.e. chemicals, minerals, ceramics, metals, pigments, pharmaceutical products and foodstuffs, can be ground reproducibly to maximum fineness with this mill. Trials to test the grindability of products as well as scale-up tests are just as possible as is operation of the unit as a mini-production machine for high-value materials.
