The Cluster of Excellence Engineering of Advanced Materials - Hierarchical Structure Formation for Functional Devices (EAM) at the Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAU) is part of the Excellence Initiative of the German Federal and State Governments and is the only interdisciplinary research collaboration of its type in Germany to focus on materials science and process technology. Its vision is to close the gap between fundamental research and real-world applications of modern high-performance materials in key scientific and engineering areas.

EAM focuses on fundamental and applied aspects of designing and creating novel high-performance materials and processes. Research is organized in value chains from particle synthesis up to designing and creating high-performance materials. The concepts of material and process development are geared to common principles. Particle technology, analytical tools and methods, and multiscale modeling and simulation are research areas of essential importance. Their overall goal is to develop common methods for fabricating building blocks (molecules and particles) for the formatting structures in the four material classes nanoelectronics, catalysis, optics & photonics and lightweight construction.

To showcase EAM's presence in fundamental and applied research activities in particle technology: Functional Particle Systems, Nanoanalysis and Microscopy, Multiscale Modeling and Simultation will be shown at Powtech 2016.
