Milling wheat, screening salt or mixing ingredients for food and meals – here in the manufacture of foodstuffs mechanical processing technologies have their historic roots. Quite irrespective of whether it is basic ingredients such as starch, spices or nutritional additives, Functional Food or even animal fodder, powders, granulates or bulk materials are always used. As a result, the entire spectrum of mechanical processes – extending from size reduction, grinding, sieving, mixing or granulating right up to dosing, storing, transporting and packaging – is right at the heart of almost all processes involved in the entire foodstuffs industry.
Therefore it is particularly the foodstuffs industry which is also an impulse-generator for new and further developments in all sectors of mechanical processing technology. Having to take account of demands for process optimization, product-friendly processing, higher product quality and process safety, has laid the foundations for many innovations in mechanical processing technologies, such as for example, cryogenic milling. But improvements in screening technology due to innovative screening aids have also been achieved as a result of the requirements placed by foodstuffs manufacturers. Ultra-precise dosage processes, product-friendly mixing processes as well as particle analysis have been decisively influenced by these sectors and their striving for innovation. And the foodstuffs industry is still one of the initiators of innovations. In this connection, the manufacture and processing of state-of-the-art food supplements, diet products or isotonic drink powders for example has generated important impulses in the development of nano-particle processes.
POWTECH – International Trade Fair for Mechanical Processing Technologies and Instrumentation – is the central forum for these technologies, which are core processes in all segments of foodstuff production. Here decisive new developments are shown and trends set for new processes. At POWTECH there is a direct exchange between the manufacturers of these key technologies and the process experts from the foodstuffs production sector.
